Dr. Sachdev is Herchel Smith Professor of Physics at Harvard University. He is the recipient of many honors, including the International Centre for Theoretical Physics’s Dirac Medal, the American Physical Society’s Lars Onsager Prize and membership in the National Academy of Sciences.

Abstract:

Recent decades have seen a transformation of theories of quantum matter, with multi-particle quantum entanglement playing a central role. I will review some advances in the theories of spin liquids, and connect them to observations on insulators, the cuprates, and tweezer arrays of ultracold atoms. Different patterns of entanglement are found in SYK models, and these have been used to understand strange metals and certain black holes.
